I love pictures. Which is why I love the idea of this Project 365. Unfortunately, I've noticed my pictures are really very poor quality. Normally, taken with my cell phone b/c I ALWAYS misplace my camera. It's frustrating to be me some days. Today is no different, except, not only do I not have my camera, I've lost my PHONE too! Argg. Hoping to buy a new camera soon and actually start taking pictures like I used to know how, since it has apparently left me out of convenience for the time being.
Besides beautiful pictures-weddings, scenery, babies, I love pictures that remind me of particular things. Friends, family, a funny moment, they take you back to that time and let you relive it again-at a distance, which is sometimes comforting and sometimes frustrating.
So no "sights" tonight, but I was reading my friend Courtney's awesome blog: www.cookingupafamily.com (read it, it's great) and thinking of all the songs I love. As she mentioned, ANYTHING Will Smith is in, is right up my alley!
Another more recent fav, is a little Flo Rida: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDAaevTq51I. Oddly enough, pretty much my whole office knows I love this song. It's totally out of character for me, especially at work, but it's one song that can change me from being stressed, to easy going, in 3 minutes and 51 seconds.
On the other end of the spectrum would be my reflecting, rejoycing, relying on God songs. Needless to say, it will always have a special place in my heart.

I try to cherish every moment with her anyways, but occasionally the business of life distracts me. Luckily, I hear this song fairly often and it brings me right back to what is truly important.

Friday, June 25th-Mean People
I don't understand people sometimes. How could you knowingly and purposefully steal from another person. I just don't get it. It's mean and ruins their day.
So the reason for my rant...
I came home late after a work event at the Royals game and I was so tired, I walked in and put my daughter in bed and forgot to go back down and shut the garage door. No big deal right? I recently moved to a nice neighborhood, right? Well turns out, even in nice neighborhoods, mean people come by open garages, get in their unlocked cars and steal their wallets out of their unzipped purses.
Obviously it was a kid, b/c they decided not to take my checks, my gps, my husband's bluetooth headset, work projector and laptop, etc. However, the stolen wallet, and my husband's change holder, is pretty disappointing. Cancelling all my cards, losing 60 bucks, AND my Fox and Hound punch card (1 punch away from a free lunch) was a real downer of the day. Thank goodness it was this day instead of another day as I normally have a lot more cash on me, but yep, still quite angering.

Thursday, June 24th-Enjoying the Neighborhood
My husband is out for the night, playing poker so it was time for Kaitlyn and I to enjoy our neighborhood. We got home late, of course, since getting to our house currently takes FOREVER thanks to traffic and detours. But regardless, we made it! As soon as we got home we threw some dinner in our to go bag and headed to the park!
The park is a .4 mile walk one way, so I totally round that to 1 mile round trip! Which totally makes this a workout, right? While there, I discovered my daughter is a much better eater when we are outside, and she is distracted. Normally she eats about 3 bites of dinner. Tonight she ate a bite, ran and went down the slide, ate another bite, back to the slide, etc. All in all like 10 bites! Such success. And it was fun to just play with her all night!

Wednesday, June 23, 2010- Arts and Crafts Time
It looks like regardless of my youth league being over now, I am still heading in to a ridiculously busy weekend. All of it should be pretty fun, just a lot of places to be at designated times...not my favorite way to go. I prefer to have a lot to do and get to do it whenever I decide to!
To prepare for some of the upcoming events, I spent a mere hour at Hobby Lobby tonight. Seriously, an hour! That place is huge, it took half the time just for me to find where things were, let alone actually make decisions.
This weekend I have 1 baby shower to attend and 1 birthday party for 2 little girls, as well as a Royals/Cardinals game for my work.
First the girls birthday. I decided I was going to sew some aprons b/c I know the girls love being handy and my daughter loves to help me cook. But then I realized...I need to be practical. I'm going to run out of time with all the projects I have planned for this week. So I found these cute zebra print canvas kids aprons with a cute little ruffle on them. Now normally, I would not pick zebra print, but it was the only fun looking one that also had a ruffle so I decided to go for it. I wanted to embroider their names on them, but I don't have an embroider, nor do I know how to actually do that, therefore we went with the sequined, iron-on initial. I'm still working on the rest of the gift, thinking kids cook book, maybe colorful mixing bowls or utensils, we'll see.
Next, it's time to work on the baby shower gift. I really couldn't come up with something I loved from the registry, although everything was very practical on there (my kind of registry.) Then my husband said, "why don't you make those super absorbent burp cloths again, they are the best, everyone needs them." Some days, that man is a genius. I'm not sure why I forgot about those, I guess just the moving and putting the sewing machine out of sight.
So off to the races. I got some neutral, though the baby is a boy, fabric and a super soft dark brown towel and went to work. I cut each of the fabrics and towel into 13" x 13" squares. The cutting and measuring actually does take a while so I'm glad to have that done. I use this super ghetto setup when I cut too. It's one of those quarter collector's boards that unfolds. Silly, but it's the perfect size and has the binding right down the middle where I need it, just like a true sewing table would have. Luckily my husband thinks it's ghetto too and that we should move to something a little more official. We'll see if that ever really comes to fruition though!
Tomorrow I'll start sewing them together, hopefully the machine and I don't have another all out war!

Swimming fun and Settling In-Saturday, June 19, 2010
Today was truly a great day. We had very few obligations, which is always nice! Kicked off the day with picking up the house and actually making breakfast! Then off to swim lessons. We actually have a couple of our friends in the class so that makes it even more fun. Then when we came home, we picked up Daddy and headed to the neighborhood pool.
This was our first trip to our neighborhood pool. I expected it to be too small to accommodate everyone. I could still see it being like that during some afternoons, but in the morning it was great. It still feels like we are on vacation and were just swimming at a random pool. I don't mind that feeling, makes us really appreciate that we are in this house and neighborhood that we love.
Spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning and running errands. Some friends came over for dinner, baked ziti, one of the few things I actually think I make decently (though I'm sure anyone could!) Put Kaitlyn to bed and spent the rest of the evening watching HGTV-my favorite, and browsing the internet for some design ideas for our house! The hubs is thinking of doing a red color on our great room wall, but I'm not sure that I'm on board. I found this picture online today and would really like to make it work. I love the painting above the couch and think we could use those colors to incorporate the kitchen, and hopefully someday, new dishes, as well. We'll see who wins, neither of us are very good designers so who knows!

Week of June 14th-Please...Let it stop Raining!
Seriously, it's been raining for days, weeks even. My youth league games have been rained out 3 times in a row! I can deal with that, what I can't deal with is rain in my parents basement!
This has been the focus of the week as they are in Hawaii celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary! 35 years of marriage, just amazing. So needless to say, we are not wanting to call them and tell them they now own a houseboat and all our childhood memories are floating around their basement. We think that might just ruin their vacation. The first round of flood looked like this:
These photos are actually a bit after the initial water started draining. There was 11 inches all the way across about 1500 sq feet! That's a ton of water. Apparently the sump pump shook itself silly which ended up making it stop working.
We got all this drained on Monday. Tuesday morning my BIL went over at 5am b/c he was worried. Sure enough, another 6 inches were back! The sump pump got stuck again. Finally we determined assistance was needed and we called our grandpa, swore him to secrecy so he wouldn't call my dad, and got his advice. He informed of us the issue and my sister rigged up the fix to make it unable to vibrate into disfunction again! So far so good, but as you can imagine, the place stinks to high heaven. We have been over there every night, mopping, cleaning, throwing out treasured memories etc. This is post final flood. Working on getting the couches back in place now that they've dried out.
You know those people that get joy from cleaning? I'm not one of them, cleaning sucks. You have to touch gross stuff, there's bad smells, takes forever, ect. However, cleaning for my parents so they are not super sad when they get home, really didn't suck at all. It was hot and smelly and tiring, but totally worth every painstaking second.

Saturday, June 12, 2010 REUNION PARTY!
The day is finally here! Our official 10 year High School Reunion dinner. It has been a year in the making and totally feels like we were planning a wedding, only harder b/c you didn't know anyone's address or if they would come, and you are asking them to pay money to come. It was all planned by myself and two friends from High School. I love that we were the committee b/c we were totally ok with giving our opinions on things and using trial and error throughout the whole thing.
We took a financially emotional roller coaster, from thinking we were doing well and would have plenty of money to pay everything, to being completely broke and looking at paying out of our own pockets. We endured criticism, encouragement, and everyone wanting to give their two cents.
In the end, we actually ended up having enough money to pay for pretty much everything without having to come out of our pockets too much. It was unbelievable as we were each expecting to pay a couple extra hundred potentially for our last minute add ons.
The evening was great. Over 100 people attended and the food was actually not too bad. We decided to order a cake and one of the girls suggested putting our senior class picture on it. I was in charge of ordering it and therefore coming up with the picture. At first I thought, cool idea, then went to, too much work-not going to happen, then went back to, yeah, that's what needs to be done. Here was the end result:
We also had a photo booth where people could go take their own pictures and then they would all be posted online later. It was pretty fun to see everyone take cute and funny pictures. Here are a couple I participated in:

Friday, June 11, 2010- Busy, Busy, Fun
Today was ridiculously busy! First a normal Friday of work, just trying to get everything I need to do done, especially as we approach one of my co-workers, whom I split duties with, resigning in the near future. So much to get organized and learn!
After the old work day, I jumped in the car and went to meet my youth league team for a night of screaming and shouting! That's right, a trip to Worlds of Fun with 14-16 year olds! What could be better. I haven't been to that place in probably 8 years. There were several new rides I had never heard of. As it turns out, I can't exactly tolerate the rides as well as I used to be able to, but no worries, I just did my best and pushed it too the limit! Luckily, I didn't get to feeling too bad! Here are some of the girls on the carousel. We made them ride it. They are so cute!
We closed the place down around 10pm. Fought the traffic out of there and dropped them off to their parents without incident...thank goodness!
Next, it was time to head out to part 1 of our 10 year reunion. No pictures, but it was held down at a bar that is pretty popular. A TON of people came out and it was so much fun to see everyone again. I talked with some people who had moved away and a lot that were still local. It's crazy how you can lose touch with people just across town from you and stay close with others across the country.
I wish I could have stayed longer, but at 12:30am I was exhausted and a little stressed about a busy morning that was creeping up on me so I headed on home.

Thursday, June 10th- Bath Time...in a big girl bathtub!
We are finally in our new house! I love it here. It is so much bigger than our old house, on a quiet street (ours was really busy with a lot of speeding cars, and the neighborhood is really nice. Several people have asked me to post pictures of the house on facebook but I have decided I don't think I will be doing that. It seems really weird to be "showing off" our new house. Not trying to be holy here, but we really got this house out of God's incredible grace. He has provided us with great jobs and helped us be disciplined in saving when we would have rather been spending. It just seems really self-centered to post a series of pictures of the house.
However, that being said. I had to share this one. This is my real bath tub! I can actually sit in it and stretch out my legs. I decided to get really pampered and light my candles and read a magazine and everything the other night. Has anyone tried this? It's actually rather hard to read in the tub, my magazine kept getting wet and my arms were tired from holding it up! But....I'll take those minor inconveniences over my rinkadink old tub any day!

Reunion Time-June 2010
First, I can't believe it's been 10 years. That is just ridiculous. Two of my friends, and Student Senate members from high school and I have been planning our 10 year reunion for the last year, and the last few months really seriously. It is finally upon us! We did everything we could to try to make it fun, easy and inexpensive, but it's like a wedding, everything just keeps adding up and it's more expensive than we would like, plus, we still don't have all the money we need to do everything we want to.
Anyway, what's done is done. The reunion is Saturday and hopefully all goes well and everyone has a great time. Here's one of the postcards we sent out inviting everyone!

Mobile Garden-May 2010
I have a confession. I can be very jealous at times. I believe it's true for many people. For several years I have been very jealous that everyone else has a garden except me. I have considered doing one a couple times but either have never gotten around to it, or had reasons that it just didn't make sense.
This year I decided I didn't want to live with that feeling of regret for not having at least tried. Problem is, we were getting ready to move. Contract on the house and everything! (More to come on that later.) So I decided, no problem, we will just plant a mobile garden! We went and got some terra cotta pots and painted them black. Then Kaitlyn and I planted corn and carrots. Not sure why we chose these two but we did. As you can see, they are actually growing!
I have very little faith that we will actually get food from these pots, but at least I will sleep at night not regretting having not even put forth the effort. Plus, it was just a fun time to play in the dirt with my daughter. I don't really let her get too dirty very often, but am working on being more of a "yes" mom...when the mood strikes I mean!

Spring is finally here! April-Mayish
Still in catch up mode, so I'm going to miss a lot of fun things that happened in these months. And probably some less fun things too, but here are some highlights.
Arkansas- We went to Arkansas for a cousins wedding. It was fun to get away for a long weekend. The wedding was great and the weather was perfect. It was so crazy, before and after the wedding it was pretty chilly and rainy but during it, it was beautiful and sunny, even a little hot actually. Here's Kaitlyn and I on the dock of Norfork Lake during one of the cold spells. I must say, this lake is probably the prettiest lakes I've ever seen in real life. I will get a photo of it some time this summer when everyone can really appreciate it!
Our neighbor also got chickens during this month! I guess he's going to take them to his parents to raise. In the meantime Kaitlyn had a great time chasing them around. She never could catch them, but they were so adorable!
Occasionally, my sweet girl does get a bit of an attitude and throws a hissy fit. It's hard to believe, but it's true. This pic is one of my favorites. It is her sitting on her tree pouting. Under her breath she is muttering "don't look at me." She wanted to swing and I was being lazy...eventually she won.

Serious Sebbatical! March-Aprilish
That was a long sabbatical from the blog world. I'm not sure exactly what happened. It all started with the losing of the camera battery and the waiting for weeks to get a new one. Things just spiraled downhill from there. It's sad when you have to do a search for your own blog b/c you can't exactly remember how to get to it. Let's hope the recovery goes well!
Wow, so much has happened since February. I really wish I had stayed on my 365 day commitment to document something every day. I guess I will just try to catch up with some highlights.
There were many fun outings over the last few months. We went to Atlanta in March for my husband's grandmother's 80th birthday! It was a long drive! And my husband and daughter were both fighting pretty intense colds. But look how cute they are holding hands on the way down!
So sweet. While in Atlanta I ran my first 5k of the year! I had been looking forward to it for a while. Doing a run in another city than what I'm used to is kind of exciting and fun b/c you just don't know what to expect. I finished in 28 minutes and 19 seconds. My goal was 30 minutes so I was super excited since it was my first time out in a while.
From Atlanta, I was dropped off in Nashville to fly to LA for a 2 day meeting. While there I lost my wedding ring. Somewhere around the hotel or airplane or somewhere, who knows. Moral of the story is it's gone and my insurance was not as stellar as I thought so it will b a while before I replace it!
In April we took part in quite possibly one of our favorite days of the year. Opening Day for the Royals! All our friends have a tradition of grilling and tailgating before the game. I am infamous for having to work and only showing up for part of the fun...this year was no different, but at least I got to be there for a few hours before going into the game with a group from work. It was kind of rainy out in the morning and I was running around like crazy for work so I'm pretty much a mess, but here's the hubs and I.
My husbands birthday is also in April and as mentioned, Royals tailgates are his favorite! I organized a surprise tailgate for his birthday and the night turned out so wonderful. It was a Friday with great weather, Fireworks, the game, and great company! Our friends really pitched in to bring food and the grill, etc to make it great. Being at Home on Saturday is Boring!-February 6, 2010
Still can't find my camera battery! I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and order a new one. Bummer.
Now I'm left to my iphone camera, which is very useful, but I like having the other one in my purse better.
I forgot my cell phone yesterday at home, ughh, so no pictures. Normal day of work, followed by a work party at a comedy club. The comedians were pretty funny, but my husband had to work until 10pm so I was left hanging out at the couple's party by myself. Major bummer.
Today was much the same. My husband again had to work all day, and is still there now, at almost Midnight! It's ridiculous. I was mad for a while b/c it meant missing another evening that we could have been out with friends. But now I've realized, I just need to get over it and make the best use of my time.
So I hung out with Kaitlyn, ran a few errands and then decided to duke it out with the sewing machine again! It took a while to get that stinkin' bobbin right, but finally I was able to bang out a few reusable produce bags!
Now I'm left to my iphone camera, which is very useful, but I like having the other one in my purse better.

Might seem a little over the top to some people, but I already use reusable grocery bags whenever possible. It's kind of weird to go to the produce aisle and tear off a plastic bag. These are super simple. I was able to purchase a ton of tulle today for $1, and then I just sewed each of the sides with a simple line. They are really lightweight and perfectly see through so it won't cost anymore or be a nuisance to the store for me to use them. I believe you can probably buy these somewhere, but it's much more fun to make them myself!

An Opportunity for Quality Time-February 4, 2010
My husband graciously created an opportunity for us to spend quality time together over the next few days, or weeks. As we are trying to prepare to sell our house, one of these days, we have discussed selling his huge tv and getting a more proportionate tv for our living room. Today, a few days before the Superbowl, he sold his tv. O well, I only like the commercials anyways.
We only have 1 television in our house, and I like it that way. We actually had 2 for a while, I won one in a contest a couple years ago, but we never used it so we gave it to my in-laws. There are rare instances such as this that having only 1 tv is less than convenient, but 350 days out of the year it's ok.
I think hovering around our little 16 inch lap top screen and watching shows from hulu.com constitutes quality time, so see, there's always a positive!

Work-February 3, 2010
No photo today. I have managed to misplace my camera battery. I charged it yesterday and then threw it in my purse to put in my camera later-typical. Now I can't find it.
Not sure what I would have taken a picture of anyways. Maybe my to-do list. Got a lot done today, actually got all my paperwork done to get approved for a license at work. Once it's approved the fun party of studying a TON of information I know nothing about begins. Can't wait! I really see this as a great accomplishment for the year if I can pull it off! Wish me luck!

It's Hard to Change-February 2, 2010
Yep, this is pretty much a monthly occurrence.
It's not that I don't have money for gas, especially today as this is a company car. It's that I run out of time! I know, everyone is busy, I am not special. I just can't seem to get my time planned out quite well enough. If ever, I am early, which is so, so rare, I will notice I am running a little early and try to fit one more little thing in, which in turn makes me late.
When I'm late, I guess I just kind of hope for the best! My husband thinks I'm the most hopeful person he knows. He might be right. I may be hopeful to a fault at this point.
Like today, I knew I was out of gas, but I wanted to get just a couple more things done at work before leaving. Which by the way, proved to be a very successful day-I can actually read all my emails on 1 page now. But that means I didn't leave until 15 minutes after I needed to, which gave me only 20 minutes to get to the babysitter on time...in traffic. So the choice was, be late, or get gas. Well I didn't want to be late as that throws of other peoples day-and costs me money, so I just "hoped" the mileage was wrong and that I would make it there! As it turns out- I was right!
Silly gas lights, I've learned not to trust them these days...and I'm hopeful they don't burn me one of these times!

Stay At Home Mom Day!- February 1, 2010
Kaitlyn was feeling a little under the weather yesterday, so I decided to take a day off and pretend to be a SAHM. Luckily, she was feeling a lot better today, so I just got to spend the day goofing off with her!
We actually did get a lot done, such as laundry, groceries, dinner, and unfortunately had to do some work as well...so much for vacation day.
As we were running errands, I made a deal with Kaitlyn. If she was good, she would get a Zhu-Zhu pet! I have read and heard a few things about the latest craze. As with most craze's I was not overly impressed, and would by no means be spending extra to get ahold of one of these like some people were. Toys R Us had them for $10 today though and since I had a $5 gift card, I thought it was the perfect gift! It's kind of creepy, willingly letting a mouse looking thing run around your house, but it's pretty entertaining too!

Hitting the Snow Covered Pavement-January 31, 2010
The good thing about winter is that you have plenty of excuses for putting on a little "winter weight." It's cold outside, the days are shorter and of course the famous "the gym is too crowded" answer. The bad thing about winter is that we typically put on a little "winter weight." I can't stand it. I've been trying to do the 30 day Shred and eat a little better the last couple weeks with the occasional pound or two loss here and there, but inevitably, I always go right back to where I was within a couple days. Granted, I doubt the cookies are helping, sugar-free or not!
I've decided it's time for drastic measures...actual running! Yes, outside, in the cold, on the pavement. My first trip out was actually yesterday, and I'm amazed I did it again today. Only 1.5 miles each time, but I think that's a good place to start. It's taking me quite a bit longer than I think it should, however, I do think at least a minute or so is due to the snow covered pavement. I feel myself slowing down suddenly to go over some snowy areas as I'm worried about ice on the track. Today was better I don't think I slipped at all, but yesterday I did several times, even being careful, and was afraid I was going to bite the dust at any moment.
Here's what the track looked like the last couple of days. It's kind of fun to be running through the snow at times. I like to pretend it's like running on a sandy beach, though my freezing nose tells me it's not.

Baking Cookies with Kaitlyn-January 30, 2010

I've got to say, I was a little doubtful when I put all the ingredients together. I just couldn't picture what these were going to taste like, but once they were done they were pretty good. Nothing compared to the peanut butter cup cookies we made for Daddy, but still edible and flavorful.

Sugarless Heart Cookies
by Becky Jones
To make these cookies, you will need the following ingredients:
3/4 cup margarine, softened
1 package (0.3 ounces) mixed fruit sugar-free gelatin (I used strawberry instead)
Egg substitute equivalent to 1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Directions:
In a mixing bowl, cream together the margarine and gelatin. Beat in the egg subsitiute and vanilla. Mix together the flour and baking powder and add to the egg mixture, mixing well. Chill for 1 hour.
Preheat your oven to 400. Roll the dough mixture out on a lightly floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out cookies with heart-shaped cookie cutters (or any shape you desire). Place the cookies on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 6 to 7 minutes or until the bottoms are lightly browned and the cookies are set. Cool on wire racks.
Yields about 6 dozen
Diabetic Exchanges: One serving (2 cookies) equals 1/2 starch, 1/2 fat, 59 calories, 49 mg sodium, trace cholesterol, 5 gm carbohydrate, 1 gm protein, 4 gm fat
Note: You can change the taste of these cookies by trying different flavors of gelatin.

Sewing Update-January 2010
I forgot to post my update on my dress I was making for Kaitlyn a couple weeks ago. I finally finished it and I think it will work out just great this summer. I plan to use this experience to help me in future dress making endeavors, as I have learned quite a bit about how to measure fabric and the best order to cut and sew in.
Best of all, this rounds out one of my New Years' Resolutions for 2010! I wanted to do at least 3 sewing projects 99% on my own. I made this dress and two sets of burp cloths for a couple of baby showers I attended. All other sewing projects for the rest of the year are just icing on the cake, and it's only January! Yeah!

Finally Home-January 30, 2010
It's Saturday. So glad.
Drove home this morning very early, and am pretty tired after last night. We left the hotel just after 6:30am and made it home around 9:30am so just about 3 hours. The roads were SO much better on the way home than the way down there. And I am very, very thankful. Got to have some good conversation with the boss on the way as well so that helps. He gave me great insight on how to prepare for future interviews for other positions, and what direction to take my personal development as far as classes today. Direction I have been needing for a while as I am constantly thinking of different courses to take but am never sure which ones are the best.
We decided I would try to get everything turned in so I can test for my Series 6 and 63 license in the next couple months. I've been putting off getting everything turned in b/c I'm not sure what to do on the paperwork, but I'm going to get it done this week, I have to, I've had it since November!
Then I'm going to take some online courses through my company to help me understand what our newer agents are going through. And finally get my outside CPCU designation, which is an insurance designation that all insurance companies recognize, so that will be useful in case I ever change companies as well, which I don't anticipate doing at this time, but you never know!
After the drive home, I took a quick 30 minute nap and then time to go again. Kaitlyn and I headed down to my nephew Brett's first basketball game of the season. They lost the first game but have another one this afternoon that we will have to miss due to nap time.

Company Parties and the obstacles that come with them-January 29, 2010
It's Friday! Yea, except, I had a full day today. Went into work this morning and got a few things hammered out that had been sitting around, still so much to do though. A bunch of silly things that I'm just confused on continue to lie on my plate from week to week. Really hoping to get motivated next week and just get them all figured out so they aren't hanging over my head anymore.
The weather isn't great around here, very cold and some snow, but tonight I had a End of the year Party for one of my districts that I was to attend. It was located 3 hours away. The roads and weather down there are said to be quite challenging. So we debated all day about if we were going. Finally at 1:30pm we headed down to the party. It was a long, semi-stressful drive, as there were several cars along the side of the road and the roads were a bit slick in places. Additionally, the wind was kicking up a lot of fallen snow making visibility minimal at times. Not to mention the fact that I was driving my boss's car, with him in it!
Luckily we made it. Very few people ended up attending which was disappointing but I'm glad we came. I think it showed our colleagues that my boss and myself are committed to them and their successes. We had a very nice dinner and then went and did some gambling as the event was at a hotel/casino. I lost 50 buck playing blackjack, not my game of choice, I'm a craps girl these days, but lone behold, there were no craps tables at this casino. Anyway, it was ok, as my husband had graciously extended the invite for me to lose up to $100 without letting me feel guilty about it! So $50 wasn't too bad. Didn't get to bed until 11:30pm though, and leaving at 6:30am tomorrow. Ugghh!
My room was gorgeous as many casino rooms are. Huge flat panel tv, very spacious and an awesome bathroom. Lots of granite and nice fixtures. And the bed was nice and welcoming after a long day. Here's a couple pics of the pretty bathroom.

Project Completion! Finally! January 28, 2010
Last month we decided it was time to do some minor remodeling to our kitchen. We hope to move in the next 6-12 months, however, did not have much luck when we tried to sell last summer. Given the current market, we want to make affordable improvements that will attract buyers, but not put us any more in the potential hole we may be in.
Here's the before:
Our other objective is to just do things that make us like our home better while we have to live here. The kitchen remodel has achieved that! New tile countertops, faucet, garbage disposal, microwave and finally paint! The painting took me the last month! I got a little distracted.

I don't love the paint color 100% but it does make the room much brighter and is very neutral for prospective buyers. Still need to make new curtains but at least the majority is done.

First signs of Spring? Please!!!!- January 27, 2010
Today was a very good day. I got a bunch of work done early and had a little extra time to work on our house. Cleaning and moving furniture around...taking down Christmas lights! I know, about a month late, but it's been so dang cold here, it was just impossible to get out there. There was a glimpse of sun today, so I had to run out and take advantage of it. Turns out, they come down a lot easier than they go up! I'm super excited too, b/c when my husband gets home tomorrow night, he will see I took care of it and he doesn't have to! That should make him very happy.
While I was out there I noticed these little greens coming through!

I am so excited for Spring. Fall is actually my favorite season, but I can't stand the cold, so I am really looking forward to Spring. These are flowers that the people who lived here before us planted. I don't really have a green thumb or whatever they say, so I am very thankful for their hard work!
Just me and the kiddo-January 26, 2010
My husband is out of town all week so it's just me and Kaitlyn. We have lots of fun together, but of course, we miss daddy. I also hate staying at the house by myself, especially for several days in a row. To make things even worse, a house a couple doors down from us was broken into the other day...not feeling real secure right now. So yes, although I am 27 years old, a mom, and should be able to stay by myself in my house for 3 days, we're going to use this opportunity to go spend some time with Nana! Made it 1 night by myself to prove I could do it, now, time to move on.
Tonight we went to dinner with Nana at On The Border. It was good. I'm trying to lose these silly 5 lbs I gained rapidly while we were hoping to get pregnant, and then the 9 weeks I was actually pregnant. Eating at home and trying for smaller portions doesn't seem to be working, so I'm getting more drastic....actually working out and not eating high fat items! Novel idea I know.
On the Boarder had a great steak salad with fat free mango vinigarette and a little bit of guacamole. It was so good. It normally comes with a couple other things, cheese, sour cream, etc. but I just asked those not be put on. Good choice, it was just as good without them. And we had a blast hanging out with Nana all night!

Emotional Phone Call Day-January 25, 2010
Interesting day of phone calls. I received an email early this morning notifying me I would have a phone interview later this afternoon. So exciting! I applied about a week ago and was beginning to expect the automatically generated rejection letter that has crossed my desk on occasion over the years. So I was excited and nervous for the interview.
I think it went pretty well. I felt confident in 90% of my answers and don't know if I could have done much better. Now whether I get the job or not is another story, as SO much goes into these positions besides just a good interview. For all I know this may have just been a courtesy interview, but regardless, it was a good experience with more behavior based questions.
If I DO get an offer, things will get crazy in a hurry, as it will mean moving out of state. Kind of in limbo right now, but I"m not too worried, either way, I won't be disappointed as there are a lot of other opportunities that I could try for as well. That being said, this one is really good, my top choice besides one that would involve me being able to stay in KC.
I also got another phone call today. It was from our doctor who performed the procedure after we lost the baby at the first of the year. They had submitted the samples to a specialist to analyze and try to tell us what may have happened. Unfortunately, the results were inconclusive. They were not able to produce "growth" from the sample and therefore couldn't tell us anything, including what the gender of the baby would have been. This was of course, very sad for us as we were hoping to get some sort of answer or insight. It would have also been nice to know the gender, just to know. But maybe it's better this way. Hoping to try again in later in the year. Trying to stay positive, but some days, some moments even, are harder than others.

Double Punch Day-January 25, 2010
Back to work today. Much of the same. However, today was Monday, and although there are many things that people dread about Mondays, double punch day is not one of them.
A little explaination- Fox and Hound has these little punch cards and when you get 5 punches you get a free lunch. On Mondays, you get 2 punches instead of one, hence "double punch day". Anyway, its the one day people you like to go to lunch with, will for sure go to lunch together. I don't really think anyone really cares about the double punch that much (although, my frugal self, kind of does) but it's just an excuse for everyone to go.
And the best part of going there, is we play pool while we wait. I'm not a great pool player, but it's nice to have something to do while you're waiting FOREVER for your food to come....good punches, good pool, not so good service. Ah well, you win some and lose some.
BTW, I lost again today. O well.

In other news, my poor husband had to fly to New York today. It was really windy here and there. I was worried about him all day as he hates to fly. I did get to exchange texts though, he made it and is at a good hotel. Miss him already, as does our daughter.
Sunshine at Last!-January 24, 2010
Today it was actually sunny out! It was so great. It was still cold though. The sun deceived me into thinking I could dress myself and my daughter in jean jackets instead of winter coats. Needless to say, I learned my lesson as we waited for the shuttle bus to pick us up from the church parking lot and take us down to the church building. I felt so bad for Kaitlyn but I hugged her really tight and hopefully kept her warm enough.
After church we came home and had lunch and let her take a nap. The hubs had to work all weekend so while he was busy working, I took both our cars and washed them. This isn't an automatic car wash, no way, I don't think that's allowed in my husband's world! So I stood out at the car wash bay getting them both scrubbed down. A little chilly but well worth it, as both our cars, especially his, were disgusting, covered in salt and dirt from all the dirty snow that's been hanging around for the last 2 weeks.

Baby Shower Day-January 23, 2010
Busy day today! Had a good lunch with a more "mature" couple that we never really spend much time with. It was fun, and refreshing. Always good to hear others' stories of what they have been through and you are experiencing or have experienced as well.
After lunch we hung out at home and prepared to head to one of our friends baby showers. It was a "couple's shower" which meant my husband got to come to! hahaha, baby showers. I love them b/c it means someone gets to have a baby and they get such cute stuff and are so excited. However....we all know, baby showers can be a little boring and baby shower games....painful at times.
Tonight was much different though. No games, thank goodness! Just a bunch of friends hanging out and wishing our friends and their new baby happiness.
Here's the happy couple. Baby #2 for them! Oh yeah, and it was a surprise shower for the mom, so she was a little unhappy at how she had dressed, but she still looked great, as always!
After lunch we hung out at home and prepared to head to one of our friends baby showers. It was a "couple's shower" which meant my husband got to come to! hahaha, baby showers. I love them b/c it means someone gets to have a baby and they get such cute stuff and are so excited. However....we all know, baby showers can be a little boring and baby shower games....painful at times.
Tonight was much different though. No games, thank goodness! Just a bunch of friends hanging out and wishing our friends and their new baby happiness.
Here's the happy couple. Baby #2 for them! Oh yeah, and it was a surprise shower for the mom, so she was a little unhappy at how she had dressed, but she still looked great, as always!

So I have this somewhat secret passion. Most people that really know me, know that I am a bit frugal, but I'm not sure how many people really understand the joy good deals give me. It's quite silly really, but I just like saving money and getting cool things inexpensively.
Now don't get me wrong, there are much more frugal people out there than me and I'm ok with that! But I had to share my fun day of deals.
I have been watching coupons. Only really for toiletry type items though. The occassional milk coupon maybe, but as for food, it just doesn't seem like there are good coupons for food that isn't really pretty bad for you.
So I went to CVS today and had all these mismash of coupons and rewards and whatever else the really frugal bloggers talk about, and got all these great items for $3! Granted, I had $12 of rewards from a previous purchase.
Yea, happy day for me!

Had to take a short break from posting and taking pictures. I spent the last week pretty much working and hanging out with my family. Good times, but of course, I wish I had taken more pictures! Pictures of my family make me so happy.

Snowman Time!-January 17, 2010
I have been waiting to take Kaitlyn out in the snow ALL week! But it has just been to darn cold. I hate the idea of risking her getting sick from playing outside, just so we can have a good time. But finally today, it was mid 40's which feels like a total heat wave for this time of year.
As always we had a busy Sunday. Our day never gets started until about 2pm as we have church, and then family lunch. It's all good, but makes for a very short weekend. While Kaitlyn took a nap I ran to do some shopping. A good time, but I wish I would have been able to wrap it up sooner to have more time to play outside. As you can see, it was getting dark as we were trying to finish up our snowman. Kaitlyn loved playing in the snow, she was not ready to come in!

Busy Day-January 16, 2010
For some reason, I always have trouble remembering to take a picture on Saturdays! No picture today. Ran around doing errands with my family, hung out at the house all afternoon and then had some friends over to play a new game at night! Another great day this weekend!
New Adventures-Friday, January 15, 2010
Today was a great day. I finished up my work 3 hours away, it was great meetings with a lot of positive outcome. Then it was off to dinner and fun with friends for a couple friend's birthdays! We tried this new specialty burger place my husband and I have never been. The wait was ridiculous, probably an hour and half or so. It was busy, but really it was pretty terrible management at the hostess stand. Actually I've considered sending in a comment but I'm always afraid that will cost someone their job, and I would hate that to happen, I just wish they were a little bit better at it!
Anyways, the food was pretty good. I had a bison burger, which I like. We also had some truffle fries and sweet potatoe fries. I haven't tried either one before, and they were both pretty good, although I would tire of them easily if I had them all the time. A good once in a while treat though.
